for the 2010 Essay on the Declaration of Independence
What is Essays of Freedom?
Essays of Freedom is a place where you can participate in essays on American freedom and the writings of the founding fathers. This year's essay is on the Preamble of the Constitution.
Who can submit an essay?
All high school students from the 09-10 school year that reside in St. Louis city or county, Jefferson county, St. Charles county and now Franklin county.
What are the prizes?
Cash A cash prize will be presented to the first place Winner and the runner-up. The first place winner will receive $250 and the runner up will receive $100.
When and where will the prizes be given?
Winners will receive their cash prizes at the Declaration of Independence celebration in the St. Louis area on June 25, 2010. Winners will also have the opportunity to read their essays
How long does the essay have to be and what should it cover?
Essays must be typed in a legible font and double-spaced. A minimum of 1,000 words is required and a maximum of 1,500 words (not including title, bibliography or footnotes). Essays must be written in English. Any quotations or copyrighted material used in the essays must be referenced properly. Failure to identify non-original material will result in disqualification.
Contestants' essays must be original compostitions written in response to the following official essay topic: "How is the Declaration of Independance relevant for today?"
